Photosynthesis Problem Set 2

Problem 5: Basic equation of photosynthesis

In the basic equation of photosynthesis for the synthesis of one molecule of a sugar such as glucose, how many molecules of carbon dioxide are required and how many molecules of oxygen are produced?

A. 3, 4

B. 6, 2

C. 6, 6

As suggested by the overall equation for glucose biosynthesis during photosynthesis, 6 carbon dioxide are required for each sugar produced, and 6 oxygens are released as byproducts.
