Human Genetics Problem Set

Problem 17 Tutorial: Using PCR to detect genetic markers

Which of the following type(s) of polymorphism are commonly detected by using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and specific oligonucleotide primers?
Polymerase chain reaction The polymerase chain reaction is currently the most commonly used method to detect polymorphic and non-polymorphic sequences in the human genome.

ESTs, STRPs, and STSs are all normally analyzed using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Of these, STRPs are the most polymorphic, but polymorphisms can also occur in ESTs and STSs.
