The Behavior of Ants

Daily Plan

Day 5

  1. Ask students a second practice question: Do the ants prefer one type of seed over another?

  2. Provide the students with a testable hypothesis which should be read: The ants will take the smallest seeds they can find.

  3. If asked, provide the sudents with guidance as to how to design the experiment.

Additional resources for class 5

  1. Give students the second question and hypothesis. If the students found that the ants collected more seeds than any other object, you could ask the following question for the second practice experiment.

The question: "Do the ants prefer one type of seed over another?"
Possible hypothesis: "The ants will take the smallest seeds they can find."

  2. Students will take the next fifteen minutes to design their experiment, list materials needed, and design their data-taking technique. As a class, you will then finalize the plan, materials and the data-taking technique that everyone will use.
