Alien Plant Invasion: A Field Study project at Saguaro National Park

Sample Schedule

This unit will take approximately three weeks of class time. A sample schedule is provided below. Class periods are 55 minutes long unless otherwise noted.

Week One

Day 1 - Introduction and video: Why Do We Have National Parks?

Day 2 - Discussion: Problems Caused by Invader Species

Day 3 - Activity: Soccer Field Practice Plots (90 min.)

Day 4 - Video: "Strangers in Paradise" National Geographic

Week Two

Day 5 - Activity: Plant Stations

Day 6 - Discussion: Identification Characteristics

Day 7 - Slide Show: Slide Show and Study (90 min.)

Day 8 - Evaluation / Field Work: Plant Quiz and Identification Walk

Week Three

Day 9 - Field Trip: Saguaro National Monument Field Study

Day 10 - Computer Lab: Work on Spreadsheets

Day 11 - Computer Lab: Work on Graphs and Conclusions (90 min.)

Day 12 - Evaluation
