LEARNING THE NAMES OF 15 COMMON DESERT PLANTS

Directions: Around the room are 15 common desert plants. Each plant specimen has its correct common and scientific name on it. You are to develop your own system of describing these plants so that you will be able to identify them when they do not have name tags on them. We will have a plant quiz later.

When you describe the specimen remember that you want to be able to distinguish it from other plants that may be very similar. Many of these plants have compound leaves, tiny leaflets, thorns, brown or green bark, etc. You want your "identifying descriptions" to be so good that they are very specific. You don't want to get mixed up later when you use your descriptions to identify unlabeled plants. Above the numbered lines DRAW A PICTURE of the plant and then DESCRIBE IT on the numbered lines.
