Step 3. Selecting A Supervisory Committee Deadline:
February 1 prior to second summer

In consultation with your thesis supervisor, select a Supervisory Committee by February 1. This committee is comprised of at least three members: the thesis supervisor and two faculty with appropriate expertise. At least two members must be from biological science departments. The Supervisory Committee advises you, helps plan the remaining graduate program and evaluates your progress during all phases of your training.

Use the following guidelines in arranging the agenda for the meetings with your Supervisory Committee. Your first meeting MUST be held no later than March 15. It is your responsibility to schedule meetings, and they are to be held at least once a year (generally in the Spring following your 1st summer of coursework, then in the Summer of each year). Bring the appropriate blank form(s) (e.g., Organization of Supervisory Committee form, Research Topic Approval form, Progress Report form, etc.) and a completed copy of the course program form to each meeting. Beginning Year 2, a progress report form needs to be filled out and signed by the attending committee members. The progress report form needs to be copied and distributed to all the committee members. The original is sent to the Graduate Studies Committee (Ellie Warder).
