Distance Learning Course Scholarships
Courtesy of the Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz), limited scholarships are available to in-service Arizona teachers enrolled in specific our distance learning (on-line) courses. You do not need to apply for these scholarships; Arizona teachers enrolled in these courses will receive the award automatically. You may receive these awards whether you are a non-degree student or if you are enrolled in a degree program. Currently the award is $525 for a 3-credit class.


Research Scholarships

  • HHMI Research Scholarships for students enrolled in the General Biology M.S. Program:
    Courtesy of the Howard Hughes Medical Institutes (HHMI), limited financial aid is available while you are engaged in your research experience. The maximum annual award is $1,000. You may reapply for funding each year you do research. Awards will be made on a competitive basis. An award in one year does not guarantee you will receive funding in future years.

    Summer 2009 HHMI Research Scholarship Application (available January 2, 2009)

  • SFAz Research Internships for General Biology M.S. degree and non-degree-seeking students:
    Courtesy of a grant from the Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz), Arizona in-service teachers who engage in a two-summer research experience will receive a scholarship (amount TBD by level of participation). The maximum award would be $7,200 per summer. Please check back in October to apply for Summer 2009.

Workshop Scholarships
Courtesy of a grant from Science Foundation Arizona, we will sponsor up to 4 workshops in the coming year. You must be enrolled in the General Biology M.S. Program in order to apply for this scholarship. All application materials should be submitted ASAP, as they will be reviewed and funded on a continuing basis.

Each workshop presenter will receive a $500 award and will be allowed to spend up to $1,000 for photocopies and supplies for the workshop. Each workshop attendee will receive a small stipend (amount TBD depending on the number of attendees) for attending the entire workshop.

Tuition Waivers

Courtesy of the College of Science, we expect to offer partial tuition waivers in the Fall and Spring semesters. Tuition waivers are pro-rated according to units of credit (i.e., ~$452 for someone taking 3 units of credit costing ~$945). You must meet the following criteria to qualify:

  • You must be enrolled in the Master of Science degree program in General BiologyYou must maintain a 3.00 GPA
  • You must enroll in at least 3 units of credit in the Fall and/or Spring semesters, none of which may be distance learning courses
  • You must be making satisfactory progress towards your degree
  • You must be enrolled in your classes on the application due date

Fall 2008 Tuition Waiver Application - due July 21, 2008

All scholarships are based on availability of funds.
