B cell precursors randomly rearrange variable
coding parts of antibody genes. Afterwards, antigen binds
to a clone with specific membrane antibody, resulting
in differentiation to antibody secreting plasma cells
Gene rearrangements occur prior
to association with antigen. A random process, but which
produces many antibody coding genes. Antigen binding to
a specific antibody can lead to the clonal selection and
production of soluble antibody.
